Symphonic + Goths Order Summer Festival 31/05/25 Signiture Brew, Haggerston

A Local football team have recently won a sports thing and now 1.5 million fans in red t-shirts stand between my doorstep a Haggerston Signature Brew, where the UK Symphonic Goths Order are holding the first Symphonic Goths Summer Festival. You read that correctly, Goths in summer. Although thankfully not in the devastating heatwave we saw over the past week, but still a bit on the warm side nonetheless. Openers Skarlet Envy from Hertfordshire have opted for more summer Goth attire than usual getup, stirring the audience with hard hitting Goth Metal with Grooves from face painted ghouls. Their sound mixes influence’s from 80s Alternative to more Metal leanings. They’re followed by Yorkshire’s Hemloch who’s whimsical Symphonic Goth Metalcore led by vocalist Annabel draped in moth wings, have excited some fans who holdup some homemade placards throughout the set. They offer up a couple of new songs from an upcoming release which hold up against this year’s Finality ep with tracks like Vixen, Zero and In the Mirror standing out nicely. Unfortunately, the sports celebration thing has held up a member of Artemis and Apollo so they’ve had to bow out. Instead, we are treated with a solo performance from Deity and Devilry’s Francesca who throws down the mic during ‘Nessun dorma,’ belting out the recognisable classic directly into the audience with just the confidence of her very powerful voice. The rest of the band eventually join her on stage to perform their set of dark heavy Operatic Metal playing songs that must now amongst people’s favourites like Cannibal Komabt, Turn Your Scars into Stars and Pilot Ladies in Command which ends with Francesca’s outstretched wings which always delights an audience. They’re followed by Tristyn, who’s captivating Symphonic Goth Metal blend enchanting guitars with incredible and emotional vocals from frontwoman Isbella, with Wake being a particular stand out along with their cover of Faster. Tales of Perdition are usually pretty low on the bills I’ve seen them play on so this is the first time I’ve seen them headline. Playing mainly new songs Golden Child Returns, Hollow Crown, Razors of Occam from the upcoming Theatre of Existence full length, they still manage to throw in an old (personal) favourite Diary of the Paranoid into the mix. Their set which see’s guitarists, bassists leaping from the stage and frontwoman air-raid siren, ends with the hard hitting Hold Down the Hunter which brings the day to a rapturous and climactic ending.
