Shooting Daggers @ New Cross Inn 11/09/25 Roman Candle, Mountain Peak, My Tiny Room
The ongoing RMT strike action affecting the London Underground and the choppy stop/start weather hasn’t dampened the spirits of London's Harcore scene which tonight sees the debut of US newcomers Roman Candle who are touring with Queercore favourites Shooting Daggers. Openers My Tiny Room kick things off with some Melodic Shoegazing Screamo. This three piece switch between calming clean moments with meolidic but angular Post-Hardcore riffs building into fierce intense Screamo, showcasing songs such as They Had Twins and No Resolution. Norfolk Post-Hardcore Mountain Peaks play Screamo with Punk energy and each track sounding as anthemic as the llast. Playing to wha they claim to be their best audience yet with various shapes being thrown to various tracks that can be found on their Spotify. Anticipation has been building around Roman Candle’s UK debut and their EP Discount Fireworks is already a scene favourite. Front wwoman Piper Ferrai invites anyone who knows the words songs like Gaslighting Isn’t Real and Survivors Guilt to grab the mic and take over as well as inviting everyone to raid the stage. Their short set they’re prove to be a force not to be reckoned with. 2025 had been busy year for Queercore trio Shooting Daggers with gig after gig and festival appearances. No strangers to the New Cross Inn they get stuck into it banging out numbers from their Love and Rage debut with shapes being thrown to the title track, Smug, Wipeout, Dare etc. Its become a tradition with SD gigs to sit during A Guilty Conscious Needs an Accuser as lead singer/guitarist Salome’s voice belts out through the venue for the slowest and emotional song of the night. They make all feel included particularly the queer folk in the audience with a safe pit, no over the top pit killers and macho behaviour.
