Urne @ Camden Assembly 13/09/25

Hellfest was only a few months ago which was the end of Urne's touring cycle for A Fest On Sorrow. And already they're back starting the cycle over for their upcoming third album Setting Fire to the Sky, which is due out in January 2026 via Spinefarm. Returning  with a new fourth new member live guitarist Kurtis Bagley joining them, they’re treating London fans with a sold out home-coming gig at the Camden Assembly, formerly the Barfly. With no support band they take to the stage at a reasonable time and open with current single ‘Be Not Dismayed.’ Tracks from 2023’s a Fest on Sorrow ‘Becoming the Ocean’ ‘the Flood Came Rushing In’ and ‘The Burden’ gets the pit going though it looks as though Urne have also become a sing-along band, as horns are held a loft with some passionate singing. Joe’s bass rumbles and vocals roar as Angus and Kurtis shred while drummer James beats the drum with an ever present smile, they play with intesity and tightness we gave come to expect. Joe takes a crowd survey to see at which point people picked up on the band, with a fair amount jumping on around their Serpent and Spirit debut. The title track is played which is now a firm fan favourite and the harmony sung back to the band in the manner you would hear at an Iron Maiden concert, to which Joe and Angus beam with obvious surprise and humbled pride. Harken the Waves, the track they collaborated with Mastodon’s Troy Sanders gets its live debut which receives a great reaction from the audience who have been absorbing the track for a couple of months. The set closes with another set classic Desolate Heart but with new material sounding strong will they be able to keep such storm weathered songs in their sets? We can only hope as we watch Urne grow from strength to strength and with a passionate fanbase like theirs, cant see them letting them go into the dark lonely deep abyss.

W hilst  my personal life currently in  tatters,   it's  been difficult to get my head together long enough to get a blog together. But its Friday,  I'm  suspended from work till fuck knows when so,  going to  hyper focus on this for a  bit. There are three straight nights of  Thrash/ Deathcore / Hardcore /Death Metal   at the Dev .  Symbyote  are playing  Friday and Sunday  supporting 1986  with vocalist Dan’s other band the Slaughtering  with whom he plays guitar. Saturday  will be Thrash heavy with   Halberd   and  the aptly named  Thrash  Mob  along with one man battering machine Heart Ripper .  And  that's  just the Dev... UK Death Dealers Present in association with London Metal Coalition: The Road to London Metal Pride. Signiture Brew, Haggerston 06/12/25

Gay Pride 2025 was the first ever London Metal Pride event, celebrating queer musicians in the scene. The Metal and Hardcore scenes have seen rise in non-binary, queer and trans folk in recent years so having a stage during the summers biggest LGBTQ+ event is as integral now as ever before. The event in 2025 was hosted by LMC member and Davghter Front-woman Izzy and showcases queer and queer aligned bands battling for a place for the 2026 London Metal Pride. Five bands compete (was six but one pulled out) with London True Trans Black Metal band Davghter as special headliners. But it’s the punters who will decide the outcome as each have been given a voting chip to be placed in ballot boxes after the fifth band finished. Opening contenders Scene It All delivered some punchy late 90s/early 00s nostalgic Emo Pop Punk.
